How Water Shapes Your Coffee

Coffee is mostly water, so the water you choose has a direct influence on sweetness, acidity, aroma, and clarity in the cup.

Minerals carry the flavor

A balanced mineral content helps water draw out the coffee's most expressive flavors. Water that is too soft can taste flat, while very hard water may mute delicate notes.

Temperature changes the balance

Start between 92 and 96 degrees Celsius, then make small adjustments. A slightly cooler brew can soften bitterness, while a little more heat may bring extra sweetness from a light roast.

  • Use fresh, clean-tasting filtered water.
  • Keep the water recipe consistent while dialing in your coffee.
  • Change one variable at a time and taste before adjusting again.
